Draft fast. edit slow.

Located in: Writing

Based on the idea that a blank page is a formidable obstacle. So one of the best ways of getting started is to get a draft down fast. Once you get a first version down, you'll iterate towards good. It's much easier and faster than trying to write something good from the beginning.

  1. Put everything on the paper. Don't worry about the first paragraph, you'll figure it out closer to the end.
  2. As you write, add in comments on the direction you can go. The goal here is to get everything down.
  3. Walk away, give it time to review your first draft with fresh eyes.
  4. At any point if you feel like you're hitting a wall, just walk away. Or talk to someone.
