Manager of one
Located in: Organization
A manager of one is someone who comes up with their own goals and executes them. They don’t need heavy direction. They don’t need daily check-ins. They do what a manager would do — set the tone, assign items, determine what needs to get done, etc. — but they do it by themselves and for themselves. [1]
This is similar to the idea of Treat your teammates as adults. It's setting the expectation that:
- Do what you need to do to make the organization successful.
- You do the right thing for the organization and your teammates.
- You decide the best environment, schedule, and approach to deliver on your responsibilities and outcomes.
- If you see a problem, either deal with it or bring it to the attention of someone who will deal with it.
- If want to take time off, you need to manage your schedule, responsibilities, and teammates. Just because your manager approved your vacation does not mean you can drop the ball.
- You need to manage your personal growth and improvement. Your manager will help, but you need to be your own champion.
