Strategy framework - mousetrap
Located in: Leadership
Via John Cutler
The mousetrap approach aims to provide more transparency on the reasoning and assumptions that create a set strategy. The great thing about this approach is that it's nested, you can choose the "zoom" level depending on your audience.
It starts with a mindmap:
- Goal a measurable goal
- Because - Why is this our goal, what do we want to achieve
- While/Without - The constraints. What we will (while) or will not (without) do to accomplish the solution.
- Nested underneath these while/without statements is a because I assume or because I know. This is where you describe why this constraint exists.
- By - Potential solutions that can accomplish the goal. Nested underneath these soltuions can be another layer of Because, While/Without, and By.
He provides an example of this framework with the goal of making $70 today.
