Gibson Biddle, previously CPO at Netflix, wrote a 12-post series on how they approached strategy during his time at Netflix. The exercises are available as a Google Slide as well.

The first exercise is called "Delighting customers in Hard to copy Margin-enhancing ways", it involves answering three questions:

  1. How does/will your product delight its customers?
  2. What will be your product’s hard-to-copy advantages?
  3. How will your product deliver a business?  What are your “price & plan” tests? Your potential business model experiments?

Based on the above, you come up with 4-6 high level product strategies that you're organization will test in the next 1-2 years.

Next, you dive into those high level strategies. Coming up with:

  1. The proxy metric to measure the effectiveness of the strategy
  2. 4-6 opportunities or bets to execute on the strategy

He also suggests an exercise called GLEe: Get Big, Lead, Expand:

  1. What are the trends that your product has ridden and will ride further in the future?
  2. Then detail how your product will:
    1. Gets Big on…...
    2. Leads…..
    3. Expands…..
