Timelines and estimates are like weather forecasts, as you go further into the future it will get more inaccurate. An estimate looking out months is difficult. A butterfly flapping their wings (aka someone gettting sick, a high priority issue, etc) is impossible to predict but all add up resulting with huge snowfall 3 days into spring.

All that said, we're constantly working on getting better at estimating and providing accurate release dates, all while remaining agile and flexible.

Building a product is not an easy task. It's kind of like home renovation, there's always a problem hiding behind the wall. Or an opportunity to make improvements once you get into it. The product and dev teams work together to try to predict what we think is involved in delivering on a feature. But there's always going to be some surprises or complexity once we actually get to work, or times where you have no idea why the light you just installed isn't turning on.

All that said, it's something we can get better at and we are working on it. We're trying different approaches to understand the complexity of a feature while remaining agile and flexible. And when a feature is delayed we reflect on what happened and how we can improve.
